Description

Current version of mediawiki, according to {{CURRENTVERSION}} variable is 1.12.0.
Starting from version 1.15+ there are many enchancements from wiki editors could benefit. Particularry i mean:

  • more variables
  • more advanced templates
  • gregorian calendar
  • Unified date format
  • date displayed respectively to settings
  • many others ;)

I would like to ask wiki.openmoko.org admins to upgrade mediawiki to version at least 1.15.

sorry about the delay.

what exactly do we win with this? will mediawiki get less painful for admins and users?

will it fix real bugs?

Hi Roh,
benefits are as i wrote previously. Yes, IMHO it will get less painful, especially for those of us who tries to create new templates - as a result this will ease life of regular editors. As an example: I was trying to create new templates for CU's "Events" like i did/modified DistributionBox? and ApplicationBox?. Doing this without latest mediawiki functions, appeared to take too much work, so I asked to upgrade mediawiki version.

Regarding bug fixes, I can't answer your question, as I didn't checked this, but AFAIK most of software releases contains bug fixes. Mediawiki should be not an exception here.

Of course if this involves much work I can wait - no rush here. But IIRC this machine OS, hosting openmoko's wiki is based on debian right? If so, this shouldn't be such a pain to upgrade this?
